| Author : | Topic: Zach Walters vs. Larry Sharpe at the Target Center | Bottom |

I actually recall the Vanda-Williams fight being fairly criticized when it was first announced. Since then, I know I and others have been much more intrigued by it. It makes sense for both fighters, imo with a little more risk to Phil than Matt but both have high reward with a win. I'm not criticizing the Walters-Sharpe fight, although I was surprised by the announcement. I've always thought of Sharpe as a jr mid, and Walters has always talked about his ranking and desire to be light heavy champ. To me, for Walters, I see this as a low reward, high risk fight, and I don't see this fight furthering his plight in the light heavy ranks--i think that's where most of the criticism is coming from. If he wins, people see it as a win over a jr mid with a low to moderate name. If he loses, he loses to another moderate name guy moving up in weight at the TC which would not be good at all. Although I was shocked when i heard these two would be fighting, I think Zach will have his hands full with Larry--this guy is tough. I'm very surprised Larry actually took this fight at the weight, so I have to believe he must feel confident. Also, on the height issue--Zach doesn't use his height when he fights anyway--he hunches over and leans forward, so I don't see the height being an issue at all unless Zach starts fighting tall. |

At the end of the year we need a new Power Rankings. Over the next 2 months I think a lot of these rankings will sort themselves out. I think spots 2-20 are pretty wide open. I also think it's time to drop Bonsante and Kost from the rankings due to inactivity.

I agree. I think Kost and Bonsante have to be out with Bonsante officially retiring. Boxing has certainly picked up big time in 2009 here in MN so making this list will be a headache. I think it has to be capped at 30 names!

Wow.....21 shows this year. That's astounding considering the 4 top promotions rarely share talent.

Min gettin it done! Whats the deal with kost, did he hang it up or whats the word? Is Bonsante done for good, thought he was talkin bout a return after the dust settled from kolle/bonsante. Yeah Don zach dose not use his height, i know they have been working on it for awhile...so i hear! Hope he gets it figured out , would be a huge advantage for him!

Beardown--you are correct, sorry for the omission of Zach. He is wearing a sport coat. It just hit me that he looks like a college basketball coach there. Doesnt he? Twenty one shows! Wow--that is very hard to believe for the reasons Cory gave and if you recall, I believe we only had four shows in the state last year total. That's just off memory. |
